Hiring a contractor

Questions you should ask

  • Is your company insured?
  • What cleaning methods do you use?
  • What type of detergents will you be using?
  • Do you have a list of references?
  • Do you guarantee your work?

Pressure isn't everything

Most people think pressure is all it takes to clean a home — false! Even small consumer pressure washers can force water behind vinyl siding, damage painted surfaces and screens, and break thermo-pane window seals.

Bleach alone isn't the answer

Bleach is a strong oxidizing compound and should never be used by itself to wash your home. Professional detergents are formulated to clean safely and kill growth.

Warning flags

“$100 house washes” or “I'll beat any price!” sound too good to pass up — be careful. These offers often come from inexperienced, uninsured, under-equipped operators. What looks like a good deal can cost you hundreds of dollars in the long run.
